Chattanooga Area Schools
Back to School, Credit Union Style
August 26, 2025

Class is in session! Time for a quick refresher on the accounts you have access to with membership at Chattanooga Area Schools Federal Credit Union.
Credit Union Membership
Credit unions require a field of membership in order to better service a particular group with a common bond. Chattanooga Area Schools Federal Credit Union was originally sponsored by Hamilton County Schools in 1935, but has since expanded to service educational employees in Hamilton County and the surrounding counties. Immediate family members are also eligible to join and have their own accounts. You can view the full eligibility list here.
By keeping our membership closed to only those in education fields and their families, CAFSCU has a deeper understanding of who you are as a member, and you are given the opportunity for better rates and personal service.
As a member of Chattanooga Area Schools Federal Credit Union, you aren’t a customer. You’re a member and are buying in as a part owner of the credit union. Every member has an equal share and equal vote at our annual meeting. Since credit unions are not for profit, and members are shareholders, any profit gets returned to you in the form of better rates and benefits.

Savings You Can Trust
Your savings are safe at CASFCU, federally insured by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) up to at least $250,000 per individual member. From a basic savings account to an IRA, you can trust us to protect and grow your savings. Begin your membership with a Share Account at a low minimum opening requirement of $25 and start earning monthly dividends on your daily balance.
The minimum deposit required for a CASFCU High-Yield Share Certificate account is $2,000. With a Share Certificate account, you could earn returns up to 4.19% APY* in a short period of time without sacrificing your typical monthly budget.
If you want high returns with convenient accessibility, CASFCU Money Market Accounts are a perfect step up. These savings accounts require a minimum balance of $2,500.
Even if you are contributing the full amount toward a 401k with an employer, you can still max out your IRA contribution limits on top of that. CASFCU offers three different types of IRA accounts, Traditional, Roth, and Certificate IRA Accounts.
It PAY$ to be a member, because each of our savings accounts provide dividends depending on the account terms and your balance. If the credit union has an especially good financial year, the income is paid back to members through bonus dividends. Bonus dividends are paid to members at the end of the year, if applicable, and all members in good standing with the deposits will receive one! The more money you deposit, the more money you could earn.
Convenient Banking for School Staff
Educators don’t typically have a lot of free time during the school year, so we make convenient banking a top priority. With online and mobile banking, you can check your account balance, review transactions and more from wherever you are. Never miss a loan payment and start hitting your savings with ease by setting up automatic payroll deduction. You can even take advantage of our free notary service when you need it.
